GLC and Camp Read-a-Rama

Gethsemane is excited to help launch a Seattle version of Dr. Michelle Martin's highly effective and wildly popular “Camp Read-a-Rama,” a day camp similar to GLC's Earth Care Camp but with an added focus on assisting families to resist the “summer slide” in children's literacy. As with Earth Care Camp, opportunities will abound for building relationships and delighting in exploration both at Compass on Dexter and on field trips around Seattle.

Gethsemane is working with Dr. Martin to identify ways to fund those camps which will serve about 30 children, ages 4-11, each week.

What we're going to do:

  • Camp Read-a-Rama Tell Your Story

Each of the weeklong camps would include an evening family night for a shared meal, the celebration of accomplishments and learning, and also for connecting to parents to assist them in building their skills to support literacy.

Ways to Support

On average, full-day, non-specialty summer camps in Seattle cost $300/week and require transportation to/from the site that often is hard to arrange, expensive, or both! But the generous donations of area faith communities, businesses, and individuals makes it possible for families to register children for this camp at no cost at all! Any size contribution helps. So would your volunteering to assist with camp! Maybe you could help for a day, a week, or more...?

Please contact Doc Martin for more information if you are interested in helping with volunteer support or if you have questions about offering financial support.

Here are some donation levels to help you think about the impact of your gift.
