Holy Week

A time to gather and celebrate new life.

you are welcome here

So much leads up to Easter Sunday, it's hard to pick only one moment or a single service to emphasize. For some people, choosing an option or two is just how it works into the schedule... The best thing is to start where you are. You don’t have to believe it all or understand it all. There’s a place for you in this community wherever you are in your spiritual journey.

For me, I love all the services — each for a different reason. The bold, brassy sounds of Palm Sunday and Easter. The sense of togetherness on Thursday, the mysterious darkness on a Friday that sometimes is hard to call "good." Saturday's Vigil, though — it takes my breath away every time. The flames leaping from the fire, the stories shared; water, word, oil of gladness.

All of it brings joy at another year's reminder that nothing can stop God's love for us. Not life or death. Not depression or anxiety. Nada. Nichts. Nothing.

Of course, each of the services is getting at that from a slightly different angle. In word, silence, song, and action — all of them breathe life into us so that our own lives get something of a new start. A burst of life and joy. A spark of hope. Everyone is welcome. Really.

I hope to meet you at Gethsemane soon.
